There is something missing from Fifa 13 on the Wii-U and that’s Fifa 13! As it is basically Fifa 12 rebranded and omitting a whole host of the biggest features from this year’s installment.  It does have the Player impact engine and tactical defending but a year old version. The tactical defending has improved dramatically over the last year so it was really disappointing to see the old version on Nintendo’s new console.

Fifa on the Wii-U does have some features not available on other consoles again based around the new controller. In match management being the most useful allowing you to make subs, change formation and tactics on the fly.

Touch controls are implemented when playing the game on the controllers screen similar to the touch controls on the Vita but without Sony’s impressive touch screen.

Free kicks allow you to hold up the controller and view the pitch from the player’s perspective making lining up your free kicks a small bit easier.

Perhaps the biggest omission and a very strange omission is Fifa’s Ultimate team. The card swapping squad building feature has been one of Fifa’s biggest additions. Player purchase card packs with real money and can then use the contents to build and manage their team. As this is a huge revenue generator for EA so it does point to Nintendo’s lack of experience with online gaming being the reason why it’s been left on the bench.

Also left out are other big features like Football Club, Match Day and Skill Games that make this edition of Fifa one of the worst available.

Overall: Fifa 13 on the Wii-U is a release for release sake just to have a Fifa game on the new Nintendo platform. A mix of the low up take on the platform and the lack of secure online features means this version of Fifa is well below the others console versions.
