Release Date 6th of September.

Resistance 3 the final chapter in this terrifying story. Insomniac games have declared that this is it there will be no more Resistance games at least on PS3 (they will have some spins off on PSP/Vita) but this as far as the main story goes will end it all.

Resistance 1 still stands up today as one of the best shooters on the console, Resistance 2 to be fair did suffer. There was something I could never put my finger on that just didn’t capture its predecessor. The good news is that Insomniac have taken the best bits from 1 and 2 and moulded them into the ultimate Resistance experience in R3.

Set six years after the invasion started and human’s are very much a dying breed with over 90% now either dead or turned into a monstrous Chimeran soldier. You play a new character Joseph Capelli, Joseph has been living under ground with the remaining survivors along with his wife and young child. Joseph sets off on a road trip from Oklahoma to New york meeting the final remnants of the human race along the way. Insomniac have really gone out of their way to work on this story, one of a man’s journey along a chosen path in a real trip of discovery.

A doctor who worked on Nathan Hale’s (from R1) dead body discovers that he had a strange cell make up and his body would have eventually fought off the infection. From this research the doctor has been able to create a cure and possibly save humanity.

Making there return from the first title are the weapons wheel and the health blocks that seemed to be omitted from R2. It will also see the return of some of the fans favourite weapons such as the Bullseye and of course the Carbine, but will also see some new weapons like the Mutator which causes the Chimera to bubble up and explode and a home made food can based grenade as you will find Resistance 3 is very much about survival in any many and make shift weapons will play a huge roll.

The multiplayer will see a reduced size of 60 players down from 64, it will feature five different modes such as Death matches, chain reaction, Breach and capture the flag. Those of you who have been talking part in the multiplayer know just how tight the game is and how good it looks too.

It will of course also feature support for 3D and for the Move so that means I get to break out the awesome Sharp shooter again (my new favourite toy).

We did get a good chance to play through some of Resistance 3 at Gamescom in both 2D and 3D and we have been extremely impressed. It feels much more like the original , look stunning and if the story does hold up throughout this really will be one of the top titles this year.
