The God of War collection hits the Vita in yet another porting on the popular franchise. In fact this is a port of a port. The Vita port of the PS3 HD remake from 2009 includes God of War 1 & 2. The good news is the PS3 version is actually included in this “cross buy” product.

God of War is much more than just a traditional hack n slash title as it manages to mix incredible cinematic set pieces, puzzles and platforming to keep the gameplay fresh and engaging.

God of War: As Kratos you play a troubled Spartan Warrior who is tormented by the nightmares of the past. He is offered one last chance to escape debt to the Gods and nightmares by taking one final mission from the Gods to kill Ares on the God of War.

God of War 2: Kratos is back again this time as the God of War but still haunted by his nightmares, but this time he is taking charge and changing his own fate in the only way he knows how by beating everything and everyone that stands in his way.

God-of-War

The series was always known for its stunning visuals but the Vita struggles in places which is a little surprising. It never reaches the quality of the HD remake and in parts looks considerably worse. It doesn’t end there the audio can be a poor and the touch controls being shoehorned in takes the shine off the whole package.

Despite all the above these are two of the best games from the franchise and if you are one of the few that have not played it this is worth picking up considering you get the HD remake for your PS3 so there is no real risk and no need to choose.

Overall: The Vita port is a small bit disappointing when held up against the PS3 version but thankfully due to the cross play option you never have to decide between one or the other. This is still a very enjoyable package.
