To find out more about Arkane studio’s Steam Punk styled FPS “Dishonored”, Bone-idle met some of the team from Arkane Studios to get the inside track and a look at some of the game’s special features.

Working with publishers Bethesda this brand new IP will hit the shelves this year and boasts an impressive number of big names in the video game industry including Harvey smith who was lead designer on Dues Ex.

Even more interesting is when we are told that the amazing city which is a Steam Punk take on 1600’s London called Dunwall, has been created by Viktor Antonov the brilliant mind behind City 17 from Half Life.

The city is being ravaged by a plague being spread by rat’s, the corruption in the oppressive political system is seeing people being killed on a massive scale to take their property. The city is an open and interactive city and even the rat’s act as a dynamic character themselves eating dead bodies and even attacking you should you get close.

This new first person shooter, see’s you play the role of a super natural assassin, the once trusted bodyguard of the Empress now a wanted man after the apparent murder of the woman he was trying to protect) with a number of special powers at his disposal. The ones we got to see include a powerful blast of wind that would knock people right off their feet and a “blink” power that allows you to transport yourself over short distances allowing players to quickly move from roof top to roof top. Your powers even allow you to possess a rat’s body to slip into areas where a person couldn’t fit or even possess other characters.

The game allows the player to take charge on how they play, they can go head on and face a fast paced FPS or if their play style suits they can take a more measured stealthy approach.  The amount of customisable features within the game will give every player their own take on the games experience allowing them to create their own strategy.

Comparisons will be drawn to Bioshock but since when is that a bad thing? Dishonored will be releasing later this year and from what we have seen it will blow you away with its amazing take on this parallel world. Blending modern or futuristic ideas with old fashioned styles, think Robots and bowler hats!
