Medieval Moves is so close to being a brilliant game that it is actually frustratingly distracting from a game that is actually quite fun to play. Boasting a well told story, beautiful animation and a well-balanced control system that works really well.

It is a Move controlled game and can be played with either one or Two Move controllers but the Nav controller plays no part in moving your character which is the biggest fault with the game. This really is the largest drawback in the game as you are very much locked in place on screen.

When you do get to move it is either controller bu the computer and you are little more than a spectator, there are small sections where you can move yourself using a grappling hook but this only propels you to the next stationary position. While this does have its benefits as the camera is locked in place too it is one less thing to control so all the controllers functionality can be retained to just the fighting.

The gameplay does work and is a lot of fun especially once you break out of the tutorials and get into some real action. Using your Move you control the  on screen shield to block attacks moving it to block high attacks, ground level attacks and then you must control your sword with true 1 to 1 precision. It takes a little time to get used to it but before too long you are blocking and counter attacking like a pro!

It has some nice touches too, to take out an arrow you must reach behind your shoulder as if you were really grabbing an arrow. To regain health you must “drink” from the move controller so your character drinks his bottle of milk. Little things like this do work incredibly well.

The story is nicely told through a series of narrated cut scenes, beautifully illustrated pictures as well as some in game story telling as well. It’s all looks and feels like an old quintessential English folklore. The characters are funny and enduring even the enemies are cute. This is a family friendly game and it is very enjoyable on so many levels.

Overall: The controls work really well and before too long you are mastering blocking attacks, returning with counter strikes. Whipping out arrows and hitting targets like a true warrior. The visuals are really quite tasty and the game over all is pleasant and humorous if a little step by step. The main draw back and a huge missed opportunity this could have been a brilliant adventure game if you could just control the character yourself and if they had more interaction with others and the locations but without this it pulls the game back into the party game that seems to blight the Move controller which is constantly underutilised by developers.

Score 7/10
