Exciting news coming out of Limerick today is that the award winning team at Open emotion Studios have signed a lucrative contract to develop software for Sony’s amazing PS vita, a device that has gone on to wow fans as the most exciting console launch of the last decade.

The Playstation Vita is amazing but it will of course need games, and this is where the team at Open Emotion Studios comes in. OES are well known for their high quality games which are jam packed with amazing music, artwork and gameplay,

Way back in July 2010 Sony and Open Emotion first teamed up to develop a series of mini games for the PSP. Three of these games, Mad Blocker AlphaNinjamurai and Revoltin’ Youth sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide in 2011 and won a number of international awards. March 2012 has also seen Revoltin’ Youth and Ninjamurai triumph in three categories at the Irish Game Developer Awards – Best Game, Best Gameplay and Best Indie Game.

After this success and with the release of the PSP’s successor the PS Vita,  it was a natural move for Sony to again team up with the Limerick team. According to Paddy Murphy, Executive Director, Open Emotion Studios, “The PlayStation Vita contract will allow us to create really exciting and enjoyable games for people who love the very best in gaming. While I can’t disclose the details of our PlayStation Vita projects for obvious reasons, what I can say is that the games will deliver fantastic gaming experiences that PlayStation Vita is uniquely designed to deliver. We are delighted to be involved.”

The Vita offers the team a whole host of new possibilities to create on with its 5 inch OLED multi touch screen coupled with the rear touch pad, dual analog sticks, front and rear camera’s and the in built six axis motion sensing technology.

While Open Emotion Studios also has a number of other contracts, it expects to add a full time artist and programmer to the ever expanding team to help with the development of two full game titles for Playstation Vita later this year. According to Murphy, “Making games for PlayStation has been nothing but amazing for us and selling in excess of 100,000 copies of our mini games which we developed for the PSP has given us a great opportunity to work on Playstation Vita, the most powerful hand held console ever released. We now employ a full division of full time staff within the company and plan to add two more to develop software for PlayStation Vita later this year”.

Recently the team which comprises of six full time and eight part time staff members moved into brand new office space on Henry street in Limerick and now aim to hire even more staff members to help with the extra work load. The new space and the new team members will allows the creative juices to start flowing.

Speaking about the deal Niall O’Hanrahan, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland said , “It is great to see a successful Irish gaming company making a name for itself through best-in-class game development. We are very excited about PlayStation Vita and it is really encouraging to see that Irish companies like Open Emotion Studios can create valuable jobs which can be attributed to the success of the console.”

From our own point of view here at Bone-idle we are really excited about this news. We would like to take this moment to congratulate the team and wish them all the success they deserve. We have been fortunate to get the chance to hang out with the guys on a number of occasions and see first hand  just how much passion and hard work they have poured into all their projects, it hasn’t always been easy but i bet it has been a fun ride.

Lastly to the Open emotion Team : “Ensure you don’t celebrate too long and get back to work because we are dying to see what you produce.
