At this year’s Gamescom in Cologne, Germany, we were able to see the Division played in real time on an Xbox One and via a tablet. This behind closed doors event was heavily guarded so unfortunately we weren’t able to take any photos/gameplay videos so you will have to make do with our impressions from this walk through of the E3 demo.

What we saw of the division was the same demo shown at E3 but set at night, with the added bonus of seeing the tablet integration first hand. The dev team explained the different sections in the game, for example contaminated areas require the use of a gas mask and the changes that had been made to the skills tree since the E3 demo.

Once the squad was all set the dev pushed on to show off some of the combat and how the player with the tablet is able to interact and assist the main players. It does look impressive but it is difficult to really say how it feels when you are simply a bystander. Once the first group of enemies was taken out the team received some upgrades in the form of a better gas mask and back pack. At this time they stopped to use the new items and to adjust the skill system to be ready for the next area.

Clearing the next area and turning on the buildings power source ended the short demo but it gave a flavour of what is possible. The Snowdrop Engine does look amazing, weather effects and textures look almost life like but we have been here before with demo’s so after Watchdogs lets hold off until the full release hits.

All in all The Division still looks like a real next gen release, with an amazing team behind it we are expecting great things from this title.
