Younger Gamers Have Plenty To Look Forward To

A lot of hardcore gamers shun games aimed at the younger generation.
The criticism often leveled at these games is that they are too easy, and ‘nothing like the games we grew up with!’
What we need to remind ourselves of before making these accusations is that a lot of the games we grew up with have grown up with us.
You take a franchise like, say, The Legend of Zelda and compare how simple it was then to how complex it is now.
Things, I think you’ll find, have changed.

The games we loved growing up needed to adopt more mature themes and added variety in order to hold onto its core fanbase. New gamers, meanwhile, are coming into the world all the time, looking for something mindless and colourful to play for 20 minutes at a time. And catering to that is perfectly acceptable.

With that in mind, both Nintendo and Namco have a number of titles lined for the coming months.
As well as Adventure Time: The Secret of the Nameless Kingdom and Pac-Man and the Ghostly Adventures 2, the following games will all become available before Christmas this year:

Disney’s Planes 2: Fire and Rescue (3DS, Wii U)
Disney’s Violetta: Rhythm and Music (NDS, 3DS, Wii, Wii U)
Power Rangers: Super Megaforce (3DS)
Winx Club: Saving Alfea (NDS, 3DS)

And the next time you start to judge all of these ‘kiddy titles’, just remember games like Aladdin, Duck Tales or Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time.
All games that would have been considered ‘kiddy’ back in the day.
And every one of them classics.
