Jack Tretton hosts this years Sony's E3 showcase, a little slight about not needing mac’s towards Microsoft breaks the ice.
Straight away we figure out that the Move and 3D gaming will feature heavily and with that in mind Killzone 3 is rolled out and a 3D game play video impresses everyone. The demo contains some of the 4th level, the frozen world where you battle the weather and surroundings as well as Hellghast who are even tougher than ever. Killzone 3 will ship in Feb 2011 and will be compatible with PS Move.
Sony then deliver some news on 3D gaming. With a line up of games such as Motorstorm, GT 5, Crysiss 2, Mortal Kombat and Ghost recon all set for the 3D market before Christmas. Sony hope the PS3 can push 3d TV in a similar fashion to blu-ray.
A honourable mention then for the PS2 in its 10th year it is still the second most played console and its still shifting units over 7 million units sold last year.
Then we moved onto the Move we got an introduction from some developers and the news that games will ship with both versions of the game on the one disk. One copy for normal controllers and one copy for the move at no extra cost.
Move games then, first we got a taste of a game called Sorcery it is a little 3rd person adventure game you play a young wizard and you use the Move to zap enemies with your wand. The demo is fairly impressive with the move actually working perfectly. You can target your spells with a flick of the wrist, the controller also measures power as you use the move to cast spells with greater emphases, again it seems to work just fine. Game could be interesting we’ll wait for more details.
EA then arrive with Tiger woods 2011 and again the Move handles quite well and the demo goes well enough bar a few bunker shots. He shows different swings of different powers to display its sensitivity.
After a word about a deal with coke what we all waited for Kevin Butler came on with a hilarious and rip roaring speech that proved a crowd pleaser.
Details on the Move then it will ship Sept 15th in the EU Sept 19th in the US and Oct in Japan. It will retail at : Move controller $49.99, navigation $29.99, buddle with sports game $99. With a list of games that support it including Killzone 3, Socom, Tiger woods, resident evil 5, Heroes on the move and sorcery. To cater for the hardcore as well as casual gamers.
The hand held PSP then took over and with a new advertising campaign “step up your game” with a new host Marcus to push its software. With titles like Metal gear solid peace walker, God of War Ghost of Sparta and a promise of a massive 70 new games by Christmas.
The Sony E3 booth is replicated on PS home so everyone can get a taste of the E3 experience at home on Home.
Some game play from little big planet 2 which will get more competitive and then news of the PSN+ and extra service on top of your existing free PSN access. Costing $49.99 for 1 year it will give you a host of extra features, themes, DLC, PSN games, PS1 games access to Beta’s and Demos before anyone else. They will give everyone a 3 month taster you will get a few free games for the duration of your demo. So enjoy!
The Guys from EA made another appearance to show off Medal of Honor and Dead space 2 and with news of PS exclusive deals which sees a re mastered HD version of Medal of Honor Frontlines bundled with MOH and Dead space extraction for the move exclusive to the PS3 versions of the games at no extra cost.
Then a siren goes off with a warning of an incoming surprise! And what a surprise it is. Portal 2 appears on screen as Gabe Newell from Valve comes on stage to a shocked audience, people are not too sure what’s going on. He makes some ice breaker comments about him being too outspoken about consoles in the past. Gabe announces that Playstation has come together with Steam to ensure that and in his words “It will be the best version on any console”.! Big news indeed Sweet!!!.
GT 5 gets a demo with a release date for the 2nd of Nov fingers crossed this one sticks! Infamous 2 also gets an outing but that’s not coming until 2011.
One last surprise! Twisted Metal!! with a full size ice cram van on stage with Sweet tooth waving a massive blade out the window. Jaffe introduces us to some online team death match and it looks insane. Helicopters and destructible environments all features. A new game type Nuke is shown where you team up over huge maps with numerous levels take the madness to the roof tops!
Our thoughts:
A great showing from Sony kept nice and simple showed a lot of very good up coming games and accessories all coming in the next 6 months. The Move looks like it will work and at a price that’s affordable enough. They do have a nice few Hardcore games and Party games to keep both camps happy. Kevin Butler is brilliant and we look forward to more of Marcus as well. Some good shocks for the audience too with Valve on board with Portal 2 (looks promising for half life ep 3 so as well) and Twisted Metal.
