Nintendo had a showing of the expected Zelda game for the Wii and just as we expected it doesn’t really work. It was a little embarrassing as they tried to explain that you needed to attack an enemy from a particular side but despite his movements the character on screen just wouldn’t do what he wanted him to do. Throwing bombs that take three or four attempts for the remote to register it along with jittery bow and arrow. They did blame wireless interference and after all that they announced it wont be out until next year.
Mario sports mix game featuring volley ball ice/beach hockey, basketball, followed by soe stats about how many people have bought Wii consoles, games and game play hours. A speech about bridging the gap for new gamers and old gamers telling us Mario kart sold 22million copies and Mario brothers 14million then introduced Wii party !!. A bunch of “party” games.
It didn’t get any better when Just dance 2 from Ubisoft was displayed. But then finally something interesting a new GOLDEN EYE ! yes 13 years later the game that many say set the bar for shooters is getting an other run out and to be honest it does look pretty good and will be out this year.
Kirby gets a new game Kirby’s Epic Yarn also out this fall will delight fans of the original. Metroid in yet another rehashing of a previous title. Along ith donkey Kong.
But what we waited for through all that was for the N3DS. A new 3D Nintendo DS and a glasses free 3D experience. A brand new shiny NDS was unveiled it is similar to the original but the upper screen has a 3.5” screen that promised 3D graphics without glasses. It has a slider on the side that allows you to increase or decrease or even remove the 3d all together. It has a camera looking back at you but also 2 cameras on the other side so you can take photos in 3D.
Most exciting was that it can handle 3D hollywood movies with deals from Disney, WB, Dreamworks etc all in the bag.
Project Sora : Kid Icarus is a game specifically designed for the 3DS. It is quite similar to the Zelda game we saw earlier on the Wii but looks a lot more fun with some pretty impressive graphics too for the tiny machine. Wi-fi access to the internet without any subscription is a boost too.
Some announcements then about new third party software from Capcom with Resi evil, Ubisoft Assassins creed and Konami with Metal Gear Solid !!!! Some testimony’s then from the developers about how good the screen is and that was it from Nintendo for this years E3.
Our Thoughts :
An event for the retro gamer I think, with a lot of games from the past getting a revamp. At least their wasn’t too much dancing! But a lot of party games all the same with Golden eye being the biggest announcement. But the NDS has always been a favourite of mine and the 3DS did wet my appetite but I cant tell until I get my hands on it whether its actually 3D or just 2 screens showing me object slightly apart.
