After the E3 showing of Medal of Honor i was drooling at the prospect of getting a new MOH game and one set in the modern era was a massive boost as lets face it WW2 has been done to death now. The game is being developed by two different studio’s. EA LA will look after the campaign side of things and DICE the guys behind Battlefield will look after the multi-player side.
A closed beta was announced to anyone that pre-ordered it and early access was offered to VIP Battlefield users. So the 17th came i got my code after some scrabbling around and started the down load.
Now knowing this was a beta i was sure i would encounter a number of issues as they try to fine tune the game and work out the bugs. So i wont dwell on the poor hit boxes, the unbalanced weapons the poor death scenes as these are all things they can work on. What has left me deflated is that this is just diet Battlefield. Comparisons to modern warfare are really only in looks as this plays the same as BF. Basically all DICE have done is taken the Battlefield engine and built smaller maps, removed some of the vehicles and bullet trajectory. Now don't get me wrong we liked battlefield for what it was. Its not the best FPS out there its far from the worst. Lots of people like it and that’s fine. We even enjoyed this beta but are disappointed because we had been expecting something new from MOH.
The strange thing is that you needed BFBC2 to get into the beta earlier but if you all ready have BFBC2 you all ready had a better online game than MOH to compare it to!! So surely that is just shooting themselves in the foot. Pardon the pun.
MOH has a long history of making brilliant FPS games which are more character driven than the over the top antics of Modern warfare so im still holding out high hopes for the single player campaign but i just feel like EA have cheaped out on this. I will still buy the game but will it hold me once ive finished the single player campaign? i don't believe it will unless they get their thinking caps on and come up with some ground breaking new game types.
