Playstation move games hands on impressions : Following on from our visit to Sony last night here is a run down of the 8 games we got to test out.
The Fight by XDev Europe : This was the grittiest of all the dedicated Move titles we got to play last night. It is a one on one fighting game. You use two Move controllers one in each hand to map your punches. Unlike previous motion controlled fighting games where the punches are pre programmed The fight uses total 1 to 1 movements to control your fighter. You really have to throw proper punches and you can make up your own fighting styles your fighter will punch just as quick as you can. No more will you be frustrated by bursting out five or six quick punches only for the game to register 2 slow punches. You can even throw a fake punch stopping in mid air and landing a punch with your other hand. You can mix up your styles throw Undercuts, uppercuts, hooks, two fisted smashes. You can also throw in some dirty moves holding the trigger button turns a right hook into a right hook with an elbow follow through. Grab your opponent and throw in a head butt. It also tracks your head movements so you can duck punches.
We got to see an underground arena similar to a warehouse fight scene from Fight club but there are many other locations and fighting styles. Taking on the general at the army base you are faced with a Muay Thai expert who will pick you off with deadly elbows.
This is not a pretty game you need to back your opponent into a corner then pummel him into the ground spilling the blood. The black and white art style similar to Sin city is nice and it allows the blood which is red to show up even more. We had a blast playing this even though at first we struggled to land punches you soon got to grips with it. With some time you will develop and decent fighting style learning new moves and it really is quite a work out so you will shed a few pounds too.
Sports Champions by Zindagi Games : This is our second favourite which is surprising as I had it pinned as a party/tech demo game, but its professional looking graphics an adult themes changed our minds. A mix of a number of sports games. We got to try archery and a sword fighting gladiator style game. There are others but we didn’t have time to test them all. It also includes table tennis, Disc golf and volleyball. Although a mix of sports games it’s not aimed just for kids as the games are a bit more advanced mapping proper movements and they haven’t gone for cute characters.
It uses two Move controllers in the Gladiator fighting one is your shield and one is your sword, For archery one is your bow the other is pulled back as your arrow the other game types only require one controller so you dont need two to start with. While this is a sports game it is still an enjoyable single player game. Needing two controllers does push up the price so we are hoping a bundle will be announced to help reduce the price.
Heavy Rain Move edition By Quantic Dreams : This is third on our list. A game that we have played and finished before but one that will be giving a rebirth by introducing the move. It is one of the better uses of the move controller as the quick time events that used to require a button press or analogue stick twist can now be replaced by the actual movements of checking you r pockets, throwing business cards on tables, swinging punches or just knocking on doors.
As this will be a free update that you will download and not a new game you need to buy it gets even more bonus points from us. But sadly not all the levels will be move compatible you can just choose to play some chaptors. That’s the way it stands at the monet but that may change to take in the full game as its pointless if you are only replaying certain missions but on the plus side it means you can skip those annoying levels with the kids moaning.
TV Super stars by Cambridge studios : This is high on our list for a party game as im not a big fan but this really brings out the silly kid in you. You put your own face into the game which adds to the fun. You take part in five different TV shows taking part in different crazy challenges.
Im not sure how to describe it only to say this is a lot of fun you need to let go of your inhibitions and just enjoy it. Invite your friends over and take the piss out of them.
