Grand Turismo 5 Will finally see its release at the start of November this year it has been five years in the pipeline but it will be easy to see why it has taken so long to build once you get your hands on it. Boasting an amazing one thousand different cars all lovingly recreated with actual real life specs from the design of the body work to the tires and suspension. This game is a love letter to the automobile and the art of driving.
Out presentation was held in the Radison which was a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of the show floor as a small group of us attended a presentation on the latest edition to the series. First up some new cars are unveiled the new Zonda R ’09, Subaru Impreza WRX and Lexus prototype. Followed by some classic cars from the ’67 le mans. You will now be able to race the ’67 Ford GT & ‘67 Ferrari 330P4 against the Lambourgini Bertone Prototype that never made it to production (only one still remains in existence) but it has been lovingly recreated so you can finally find out which one is king.
As well as the 70 tracks that will come on the disk a feature called a track builder has been introduced. Not a track builder like we saw in Mod Nation but more a track simulator as your input certain characteristics that you would like your track to have. You enter the amount of corners, frequency of cornering, type of track, weather etc the game will create a random track for you. When you find one that suits it can be test driven, saved and uploaded online.
One of the biggest things about GT5 is that the game is now split into two equally important sections. A-spec which is your usual real driving simulator. The B-spec is a management style game you don’t actually drive, you manage a team of drivers giving them advice like to speed up, hold back or to overtake. All the time trying to stroke there ego’s so he doesn’t get up set or crash. Starting with one driver you can add more up to a total of six as you unlock more options. The management screen is quite interesting. It consists of a screen in the middle showing the race. On the right you have the driver’s position in the pack, the left displays cars and tires wear and tear/ damage and your command console to issue advice is across the bottom. Management games can often prove much more addictive this could be one of those occasions. We will have to wait and see as these modes take months to really appreciate. As B-spec comes on the same disk at no extra cost it is a massive bonus. |
