Even though we had nothing pre-planned with Ubisoft at Gamescom and just turned up at their booth they couldn’t have done more for us. We were welcomed in and got to sit down with them for 30mins on Friday morning to go through a few of their big titles set for release in the coming months. They have a very strong line up coming with Driver San Francisco, Assassins Creed Brotherhood and of course our favourite Ghost Recon Future Soldier.
First to look at is Driver. The next instalment in the Driver series heads for San Francisco where they have recreated the entire city to make one of the largest driving areas in any game. You can stick to your missions or just cruise around the open world picking up different jobs from many different sources. Ubisoft have 100 licensed cars to choose from. A new system which lets you jump from one car to the other seamlessly in a feature called shift. As you drive along you can enter a slow motion birds eye view and switch from car to car in an instant. This can be used to just jump to a better car or as displayed to us in a car chase scene you can jump ahead of the other car into say a truck and simply smash into the car your chasing to stop them. This looks interesting it will help when you need to move from a car really quickly but will it make the chases too easy we will just have to wait and see once we get the full game. We played a small bit of Driver and it is looking like a lot of fun.
Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is set after Assassins Creed 2 in Rome the centre of power and corruption in 1503. Ezio the legendary assassin is now older and wiser and leader of the resistance. To defeat the tyrant Ezio will need to enlist some help this introduces us to the new feature where Ezio is able to recruit new assassins to help him out. Working together with the new assassins to either offer him some cover from up high from assassins with crossbows or if Ezio is faced with over whelming odds can get some back up to drop in and help in close hand to hand combat. We are shown three different scenarios where Ezio gets some help but while it makes the game look easy it is explained that this isn’t just a win button as these need to be unlocked and each helping hand costs you money so they have to be used wisely.
The combat system has been upgraded to make enemies more aggressive and your own moves much more deadly. Enemies will not just stand off you know they will actually work to try to overwhelm you so you need to act a lot quicker. Also new killing death moves have been introduced one shown was where Ezio kills one enemy grabs his axe and throws it across the room to take out another enemy. The combat all flows together to give a wonderful style to the gameplay.
The single player game will boast an impressive 15 hours of gameplay but that’s not all this time the Assassins are going online in a multiplayer came types. Chooses from a number of authentic character classes each with their own signature weapons and killing moves. With rich detailed maps and a wide variety of unique multiplayer modes ensures you will never have the same experience twice. |
