DEAD RISING 2. POSTED BY : DYLAN SCALLY DATE : 1st Oct. 2010
INTRODUCTION.
When there's no room left in hell, the dead will shop in Fortune City
Okay, Dead Rising 2 is a great game. That had to be said. Reports from Capcom said that there were some issues with loading times, the report also stated that they where fixing this problem. But unfortunately they didn't and at times the controls are a bit unresponsive. But the Dead Rising formula proves to be as addictive as ever, and hosting a new cooperative mode and weapon combination system the Dead Rising franchise, although only in its second instalment has improved immensely.
CAMPAIGN. In the world of Dead Rising 2, there's an activist organization known as CURE that pushes for the humane treatment of the living impaired. If only CURE realized just how much fun it can be to maim, behead, or otherwise plough through hordes upon hordes of the brain-craving zombies. Dead Rising has not changed since the first title was released four years ago, but obviously there's added sugar and spice and a couple of items that may seem not so nice to the Squeamish. Slice Shoot, pummel, punch, chop and drive your way through hordes of zombies.
The Hero is Chuck Greene an ex motor cross champion and now, a contestant of a game show, known as "Terror Is Reality" named. After one show there is somewhat of a zombie uprising. Chuck gets the blame, races through a sea of dead to make it to the safe zone. Chuck's daughter has been bitten in the last outbreak and must be given "Zombrex" in order for her to survive, but she needs a shot every 24 hours. This means you must get out and save people from infection and try and clear your name, there are survivors that carry Zombrex or you can purchase it at a pawn store as well. All this must be done by the time the Army arrive to clear things out and settle things down.
Levelling up in Dead Rising 2 is crucial as some of the moves you learn are important for when you face the bosses are they are Uber Hard to defeat, when you first start off you can jump and kick to knock over the undead, as you go on you can learn curb stomps. By the time you can't level up anymore you will be able to tear limbs off! Dead Rising gives you three days in order to clear your name. This can be looked upon as a hindrance or it can be considered as a great idea adding hours of playing. You can go back again and save someone you missed the last time. Makes you say next time I'll try that. Dead Rising 2 has hours of playback time. You can send thank you letters to Blue Castle. When playing you genuinely try to save Chucks daughter and all the while solve the puzzle as to who has framed him. Some of the voice acting is ropey in some cut scenes but the slow moments make the shocking ones that much more ridiculous, the same can be said about the funny moments.
But unfortunately Dead Rising 2 still suffers slightly on the performance. The frame rate can be slow and the models look a bit block like. The loading is also lengthy as you soldier on through them as you enter a new area. Most of the visuals are sharper and the game does dump a load of zombies on the screen, but the smoothness of the movement does suffer cause of this. Some of the animations are also sacrificed as they look too stiff on the mini-games like poker.
Just like the original, the guide arrow at the top of your screen can be misleading and some boss battles do have the controller squeezing effect. The main enemies have patterned, often at times annoying attacks that will lead to a red face of rage. Again Chuck gets stronger and the boss battles will get easier. | |

MULTIPLAYER Now these days, having a game that supports online multiplayer isn't something that's hard to find. But Dead Rising 2 offers two forms of online play. There is the co-operate story mode where you can invite a friend or you can let another person from across the world join in. The competitive multiplayer mode is a mode where four players are to play a series of mini-games on the Terror is Reality stage, you and three opponents duke it out using antlers to flick the undead onto a scale or run them down with Gladiator style rolling balls. There are three random rounds and then the face off in the finals, where whoever chops up the most zombies with his "Chain saw cycle"(motorbike with chainsaws attached) is the victor. The money you earn in TIR is carried over to the single player game. The money you receive is neat, and the games can be good fun, but they are nothing fantastic.
The co-op takes place in the host's single-player story. A twin Chuck(yes a twin!) is dropped into the game and the two of you can play through the story. Basically it’s the story mode with another player plain and simple.
CONCLUSION.
To conclude, Dead Rising 2 does have its faults, it's not the smoothest of rides and can feel like you are playing the previous title. However that doesn't mean anything when you are dealing with a game of this calibre. When it comes to humour Dead Rising 2 has got it. Combining a car battery and a Street Fighter mask(Blanka) to electrocute zombies, a bowie knife and a pair of boxing gloves to get a Wolverine like claws are great fun. Cutting down hordes of the undead splashing blood on Chuck, changing your outfit to the likes of an Elvis style one-piece ensemble, changing the colour of your hair to blue or grey. Anything that was problematic with Dead Rising 2 is easily forgotten as the level of fun you have is tremendous.
