TIME CRISIS RAZING STORM:
POSTED BY ANTHONY O'SULLIVAN

INTRODUCTION

Time Crisis Raging storm comes from Namco Bandai, and offers a home version of the arcade light gun shooter. The Move controller gives developers the chance to now bring the light gun shooter to the PS3 market and Time Crisis Raging Storm is one of the first titles to take this on.

Time crisis really is a game best suited to the arcade but the translation to console is made all the better by the innovation of the Move’s ability to perform as a light gun but at the same time its length and ease makes this a bit disappointing for a title to enjoy at home.

CAMPAIGN

The arcade version of Raging Storm consists of three stages with a number of mini stages and it can be completed in around 15-20minutes. While that does sound short you have to keep in mind that this is the arcade game. No one could be able to stand in an arcade throwing coins in for 7 or 8 hours so its timing is understandable. It is made very easy by the removable of the coin aspect. Usually playing in the arcade once you are killed you need to dump more money into the machine to continue. On the PS3 of course it can’t accept coins so you are granted with free unlimited lives. Because you can’t really die, you don’t need to take the game as seriously as you would in the arcade setting and as such you may become a bit distracted while playing it.

Still it does offer a fun effort at and arcade blaster. The whole package is expanded by a story mode and an Extra Pirate mode. Also included in the package is Time Crisis 4 which further extended the whole experience and to be honest on rails light gun shooters are not the kind of game you put in a lot of hours on anyway.

STORY MODE

The whole package is extended by the inclusion of the story mode. This is a half light gun, half first person shooter and ends up being neither. Very similar to the story mode that came with the PS3 version of Time Crisis 4, where you had an extra analogue stick on the gun attachment which allows you to control where the character goes on screen. This is very different from your usual on rails shooter and does make the experience very different. I did enjoy it a lot more than the arcade game as its more interactive. The cover system takes a little getting used to but does make some sense, but use of a simple button press rather than a Move controller movement would have worked better.

Poor AI has been mentioned but because so many enemies appear on screen you need them not to attack straight away. But this does make it all just too easy in fact this game is very easy. For such a short game that is a bad point. Making the enemies more difficult and restricting the continues would have made this game far more challenging.

But it’s not all bad the graphics are quite good the shooting can be entertaining at times, you have a myriad of weapons and when you see the plaster getting knocked off the walls you shoot it is all done fairly well.

CONCLUSION

It is an Arcade shooter at heart, if you want to test off your gun attachment for the move with a shooter then you will get some enjoyment out of this title. Fans of Arcade shooters will appreciate that it hasn’t been changed for the home market but at the same time fans of the genre probably know much better games. Worth a pop as it is fun but limited
