Setting:
World at War is set during WWII, in several actual battles of history, the location changes from Makin Island, to Stalingrad to Berlin.
There are plenty of differe locations in WAW that are all beautifully designed providing a great variety in battle tactic choices, sneaking through the underground in the dark, sniping from ruined buildings, flaming your way through the jungle.
So whatever your battle tactics are there is a well developed background to match.

Characters:
Private Miller (USA)
Private Miller’s story starts with him facing death only to be rescued by his Commanding officer Corporal Roebuck (voiced by Kiefer Sutherland).
From there on the two soldiers lead the fight against the Japanese where Miller is faced with brutal combat which is physically and emotionally draining.
Private Dimitri Petrenko (Soviet Union)
Private Petrenko’s story starts with him faking death, lying among his injured and soon to be dead comrades. While lying in the pits he is forced to watch his injured comrades be executed by the Nazi Germans. He then spots a moving body amongst the dead, Sergeant Reznov (voiced by Gary Olsen) of the Red army. From here on Reznov teaches Petrenko the art of sniping and both men begin to plot on how to reclaim the motherland and take the fight to Germany. Along the way Private Petrenko stares in the face of adversity and YOU make the choice whether to fall victim or persevere.

Gameplay:
Weapons
There are a variety of weapons that should suit everyone, from flamethrowers to the Thompson machine gun to the Springfield scoped sniper riffle, all weapons are very well designed and give a realist impression of the real thing.
The holding your breath to get a clean shot with the sniper is a great feature although not new as seen in Modern Warfare.
Controls
For the fans of Morden Warfare and other Call of Duty games, the controls are almost identical to what you’re used to.
For all newcomers the controls are smooth and very easy to use which suits this fast paced action game, and if the fast pace action doesn’t suit you there are options to adjust the controls to suit your playing style.

Graphics
The graphics are superb, and unlike a lot of other modern games it does not rely on the graphics to make or break the game as the Gameplay is very good and they compliment each other very well
Multiplayer:
Game Modes:
Multiplayer is probably the best reason to play WAW as there are great variety game modes to choose from including the usual features:
Team Deathmatch,
Free for all
Capture the flag
But there are also a bunch of new amazing features to choose from in this year’s title.
To name a few:
Co-Op mode
Nazi Zombie
Ranking:
The more you play online the more your level improves unlocking new weapons, new attachments and also perks.
COD: Modern Warfare fans will recognize some of the perks only with different names, but there are new perks that improve the list.
Even when you reach the highest level the fun doesn’t stop there, you then can improve upon your prestige level, this still keeps the game competitive even for you top class soldiers!
Conclusion
Call of Duty: World at War is a game you will not regret buying, there is always something to go back to whether it be something new online or else just to get those last few trophies in the single player mode.
Although it is similar Gameplay to COD 4, it is still worth getting as it has many new features that are well worth checking out.
It is an all round great gaming experience that lasts, especially with the release of some new expansion packs.
