This is a game we have high hopes for and maybe as the fanboys argue over GT5 and Forza 3 this could sneak up and take them both on the outside.
One of the first things you will notice about Supercar Challenge is the graphics. They are specatular in full 1080p HD. The cars are beautifully detailed and its not just the Ferrari cars that feature this time also included are such delights like the Aston Martin DBR9 and the McLaren F1.
Some racing games fall down when it comes to acurately recreating the fluid movemnet of the cars on the track (where the car sits in the middle of the screen and the track seems to move around you). which leaves you feeling dissconnected from the track as the car seems to be floating, the guys at system 3 have solved this by simply allowing the car to drift around the screen. In 3rd person view when you turn, the car will drift to one side of the screen, breaking and accelerating will also make the car come closer or pull away from the camera. This means if you break really hard into a right hand turn the car will end up in the bottom left of the screen giving a lovely angled view of the car. Accelerating hard out of a left turn will see the car shift over all the way over to the right hand side of the screen and pulling away from the camera. All this works really well to keep you on top of your race line and gives you the feeling of the car actually being on the track.
The controls, again a simple idea but one that i liked straight away. X and Square as well as R2 and L2 control your aceleration and braking. While both the D-Pad and the L Anaogue stick control your steering. Which suits both old and new gamers a like. ( I'm still a D-Pad and buttons kinda guy). |

Building on the critically acclaimed Ferrari Challenge racing simulation engine, SuperCar Challenge heralds the addition of the sexiest supercars on the planet while improving on its spiritual prequel in every way. Over 40 cars will be available to throw around the most celebrated corners on the racing calendar. Experience the thrills and spills that come with harnessing the full grunt of an Aston Martin DB9, the Lamborghini Murcielago RGT, the McLaren F1 and many more! Of course, the game caters for the Ferrari fans too with a selection of favourites making the cut from 2008’s Ferrari Challenge. More than 20 tracks will also be available, with old favourites such as Silverstone and Spa mixed in with the joys of Nürbergring.
Players young and old, veteran or novice will be able to enjoy the look and feel of a real supercar thanks to brand new additions to the handling modes, with the ultimate aim being to graduate players through to full simulation handling.
Assist Mode – race with all the assists switched onto full. An amazing way to learn how to drive a supercar and learn the track, but also just great fun. Tear around a track without fear of screwing things up because you forgot to brake at just the right time. This makes the game accessible to so many more people and will even see your gran cruising around Silverstone on a Sunday afternoon with a smile on her face!
Arcade – the power of a supercar with forgiving handling and more powerful brakes. Performance off road will be less but nowhere near as much as in Simulation mode. Breaking into corners and accelerating out of corners is far more straightforward and there’s no need to worry about spinning out all the time. You can REALLY throw your car around a corner and have fun whilst doing it. Don’t forget though – your opponents will be just as aggressive!
Simulation – the critically acclaimed handling returns. Drop your concentration for one second and it could mean you’re out of the race! For the hardcore simulation fans only, albeit with the option to change any of the assist settings.
Your opponents’ artificial intelligence has also been completely rewritten with a brand new Dynamic AI setting allowing the game to change the challenge you receive based on how well or badly your career is going. Of course, if you fancy a real challenge you can always set the AI to Legendary… strap yourselves in tightly though because it won’t be an easy ride!

FEATURES
True HD: 1080p graphical display.
Affective Weather: realistic rain results in slippery curbs, increased braking distances, slippery grass, standing water, back spray from opponent cars, increased opponent errors and of course, it looks very pretty!
Over 40 different cars ranging from the Aston Martin DBR9, through the McLaren F1, to our previous favourite the Ferrari FXX.
Over 20 tracks, from favourites such as Silverstone and Nürburgring to less well known greats such as Mugello Italy.
Challenge Mode: this career mode allows you to tour the globe taking on the various racing challenges that are thrown at you. Whether that means simply taking pole, completing a race with no damage or simply staying on the track in wet conditions, you’ll be scored on every aspect of your race. This score will then translate into Race Points, which you can use to buy new cars for your showroom, test drive new cars or buy one of the many livery packs and vinyl elements intended for car decoration.
16-Player Online: buy your car, customise it in the showroom and then take it out to battle the world. Enjoy intense 16-player races against gamers from all over the world. Either set up your own conditions (from penalties, to assists, to race length, to weather) or join someone else's lobby!
Other Modes: Tournament mode, Arcade mode, Quick Race and Time Trial!
Vinyl Shop: Ferrari Challenge’s praised livery creation tool has been taken and improved considerably, allowing you to design and place your own logos on any car in your showroom.
Expert Tutorials: Top Gear and 5th Gear’s Tiff Needell will be recording full voiceovers for the game, including tutorials for 16 of the toughest racks in the game.
Dynamic AI: rival drivers will get better or worse depending on how you race so you’ll always have a decent challenge going on around you. Of course, should you wish to have consistent AI you can switch this mode off. Drivers will also have their own battles with or without your influence and will make mistakes even if they’re half a lap ahead or behind you.
Graphical Overhaul: in terms of textures, poly counts, scenery, backdrops, particle effects and (perhaps most importantly) framerate, everything has been improved.
Improved sound: every engine rev, screech and impact has been tirelessly recorded and re-recorded on the field |
