EA blew everyone away with their presentation today with an amazing line up of games. They boldly came out with out any fanfare with ten solid games.
First up we got to see the new Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit which goes back to the roots of the game to the cops and robbers theme. Top of the line sports cars, race and battle to escape or take down their rival. This looks beautiful and tons of fun too.
Things are just getting going second off the bat is Dead Space 2. The sequel to one of the best games of this generation. It promises more weapons, more atmosphere, more creepy sounds and tons of terror. We where then greeted with a couple of minutes of play through and it looks stunning. Just what we want but even more hectic than we imagined. The demo finished on a cliff hanger that will be revealed at the Sony show tomorrow! What does that mean maybe a timed exclusive?
It gets better third up Medal of Honour. It is being developed by two studios EA LA who will look after the campaign and DICE. Dice we know from the Battlefield series, will be looking after the multiplayer side of things and they treated us to an onstage LIVE 24 player death match. No pre recorded video this was live and it looks awesome. Featuring modern weapons and real world locations this will be big when it launches Oct. 12th 2010. Good news of a Beta on all machines this coming June 21st.
A little break to introduce us to “Gun Club” a new rewards system for playing EA games. Giving you early access to the MOH beta. They also showed a clip for the upcoming Battlefield expansion pack.
EA Sports president Peter Moore then hit the stage to show us a new MMA (mixed martial arts) game. With online career mode that allows you to build a fighter and take it online for EA’s “live Broadcast” Where you fight live for others to watch with real commentators to earn fame and fortune.
This was followed with EA active 2 fitness game. Which basically bring the Wii Active game to all machines with some handy new accessories. Of course the version for the Kinect was a controller free affair. Madden NFL 11 rounded off EA sports presentation with a promise to make it a lot less daunting. Cutting the time of a game in half by introducing a new play call system.
The Sims 3 looks to introduce free will, and the ability to let you see how your life would live out if you made different choices. With so many choices that EA themselves have no idea how the Sims will react (and they built it !!)
EA partners is where EA team up with independent developers like Insomniac and Respawn Entertainment. One of these Partners is Crytex who bring us the spectacularly good looking Crysis 2. It is being sold as an open sand box game with the intensity of a normal linear first person shooter. We are then treated to an incredible looking game play demo. Before showing off the 3D version of the game to the audience. I must say it’s breathtaking.
Bulletstorm is an over the top first person shooter and it knows it. From the guys at Epic we got to see some in game footage. This is an original looking game with tons of violence, funny comments and outrageous kills. It looks like a game to definitely keep an eye on. Set for Feb 2nd 2011 release.
Then some Star Wars the old republic announcements from Bioware and Lucas arts. Every player gets their own ship. You have to choose sides are you with the Jedi or are you easily drawn to the dark side of the force. Didn’t go into much more showed an impressive looking CGI battle.
Our thoughts :
Very strong showing from EA today a fine line up of solid games that we will have pretty soon. A nice mix of shooters and sports games as well as two eagerly awaited sequels. Crysis 2, Medal of Honour, Dead space 2 will be amazing games.
Wonder what the Sony hint is all about guess we will find out on Tuesday. |
