So it turns out games have become too serious of late and what we need is a return to old school arcade shooters. EA have also decided that there was enough left in the market to warrant a third installment of the third person Co-Op shooter Army of Two but that it does need some tweaks to try fill that market.

The Devils Cartel introduces two new heroes, Alem and Rios have made way for Alpha and Bravo. Two characters that are middle of the road. At no time do you hate them but neither are you willing them on or building any kind of connection with them.

The game is fine, and that’s the best way to describe it. It is a lot of fun in patches but at all times it feels like it is just going through the motions. You shoot a whole bunch of Cartel members and blow stuff up in the stunning Frostbite 2 engine.

The new game feature is Overkill mode which replaces The Agro system is essentially a power boost that lets you blow up even more stuff. If both player enter into overkill it is called Double Overkill and you guessed it, this time you can blow up everything. Buildings shatter, enemies get ripped apart and for all its silliness it is dam good fun.

Co-Op is the best use of the game, there are not too many 3rd person shooters out there that are built to be specifically played as a Co-Op experience. Get stuck in with a buddy and you will have a lot of fun. It is silly over the top stuff but that’s the point. There are also a whole bunch of customization options for the guns too that fans of the series are well used to.

Gameplay, sound and graphics are all of a decent quality as you would expect from any EA title and you can pretty much play through without encountering many issues. If you like this series, if you are fond of this genre and have not overdone it on every Co-op third person shooter released then you will get a kick out of this.

Overall : This is what you would class a mid range game. Everything about it is good just not amazing, it looks and plays fairly well and will entertain for a solid few hours. It will still sell in reasonable number most likely during sales once its price drops but will it be on any must have lists probably not.
