Deadpool, the merc with a mouth and the marvel anti-hero has finally received his own game. For those who don’t know who Deadpool is, he is a comic book superhero, an assassin, has similar regenerative powers like wolverine, he is a psychopath with a painful past and is immortal due to his relationship with Death. But of course is most notorious for breaking the 4th wall.

The game is played from a 3rd person perspective and smoothly mixes a traditional shooter gameplay style with a button bashing hack n slash style, and it works.

The story is set around Deadpool himself, he wants to make a game and sets about pitching the idea to High Moon studios. After initially turning the idea down the employees of High Moon are taken hostage and forcing them to make it for him. He then sets off on an adventure that seems to make itself up as it goes (but that is the charm of the game) and brings in plenty of other Marvel heroes.

If you are a fan of the comics then you will want to play this game, it has all the humour and charm of the comics and also does a good job bringing this over into the video game world. One particular scene that allows you to jump across your own speech bubbles is particular funny.

The gameplay and animations are smooth when dishing out severe beatings to goons, mutants and mutant goons. A lot can be taking place on screen and it is rare that you will encounter any issues maintaining the quality. Later you work to unlock others combo’s throughout the campaign and the attacks get wilder and more complex to pull off.

Upgrades are unlocked in a number of ways, simply walking over pickup it perhaps the easiest. Then you can unlock others by performing combo’s making use of your full arsenal of moves, abilities and firearms. Putting together combo’s builds momentum and when it is full you can unleash a more devastating attack.

Dodging attacks can be done in two ways hitting the circle button will counter an attack but you can also use your teleportation to avoid attacks but this is not a game mechanic that is over used and when you get near the end of the game it becomes increasingly difficult to avoid dying especially when faced with a  group of gunmen.

Overall: Deadpool is one of the funniest games I have ever played with humor everywhere. If you love Deadpool you will love this, the gameplay can get slightly repetitive after a while and there isn’t much replay value outside the challenge mode and achievement/trophies but the laughs the game does provide are well worth the price tag.
