Diggs Nightcrawler is the latest in the Wonderbook series of “augmented reality” games for the PS3 and PS Move. Wonderbook first appeared around this time last year when the Harry Potter inspired Book of Spells was shown at E3. Because of its JK Rowling’s involvement its appeal was more for the fans of Harry Potter.

Diggs offers something for the rest of us; it is a fun “noir” detective story that tackles the one of history’s most infamous crimes. The Humpty Dumpty murder is one that has rocked Liberty city. In the opening scene we get our first introduction to Humpty where he talks about the risk to his life. It is not too long before he is “whacked”.

In a similar way to how the Shrek films incorporated nursery rhymes into the story, Diggs manages to do the same with just as much charm. The three pigs, Itsy Bitsy Spider, Long John Silver and the Blind Mice make up just a few members of this extensive cast.

As Diggs sets off on his investigation it becomes clear that there are inhabitants of Liberty City that want to hinder his progress. What have they to hide, was this a simple case or a massive cover up?

You control the game, Diggs and the environments by using the Move and the Wonderbook simultaneously. The controls make sense and are easy to get to grips with even for the older players who you might think would struggle; of course the kids get it strange away.

Overall: The story is very good but also very short. In saying that Diggs is aimed at smaller kids so their attention spans are not that long but with the story coming in at around an hour it is a little short.

The price is a factor though and the game is very cheap (if you already have the additional pieces such as the camera, Wonderbook and Move). The game alone can be picked up for around the €15 mark.

It is a lot of fun for kids and something parents can enjoy and get involved with too. Diggs Nightcrawler comes highly recommended.
