Deathly Hallows is the final piece in the Harry Potter saga, the final book was split into two movies and they spawned two licenced game tie ins. Despite being one of the largest grossing movie series of all time the game lacks any of the quality of either the books or the films. The final game in the series will come as a welcome relief to gamers with the understanding that there will be no more.

The game itself is simplistic, short and broken. A shameless cashing in on a movie franchise, and the annoying thing is that it could have been quite easily a very enjoyable game. Part two is built around the film with similar settings and moments taken from the movie but at the same time it is quite alien to the franchise.

Gameplay involves little more than a cover based shooter, players move through the laboured levels moving from behind one pile of rocks to the next shooting clones of enemies rather than casting spells. A small variety of spells does offer some relief from the mundane repetitive gameplay but it is a brief release.

From time to time other game modes come into play such as protecting Ron or Hermione while they work to open doors, a brief run out in a sniping mode but even with these variations you are left puzzled by their inclusion and all the time you wonder have the developers actually seen the films at all?

Not being a huge fan of the films I’m sure some of the mistakes in the game are going over my head, so fans of the movies will be puzzled by the lack of continuity between the series and the games. Spells that works incorrectly for example will drive hard core fans nuts.

PS3 fans have the option of using the Move and again it’s a missed opportunity rather than using the Move as a wand you just point a click at the enemies. Turning can be cumbersome and the target often gets lost making it less enjoyable rather than more enjoyable.

With a gameplay time of 3 ½ hours the players who do manage to stick with it to the end will be just left with a sick feeling of being ripped off.

Over all the game is too short, unimaginative and uninspiring. In large sections it’s just broken. Fans of the films will be annoyed by it, and people who are not fans of the films or books will not enjoy it either, in the end I’m left wondering if anyone will enjoy it at all.
