The long rumoured Metal Gear Solid sequel built using Konami’s new Fox Engine is finally announced, along with some apparent real progress in bringing the series to the silver screen.

Details are currently sketchy due to Konami’s request that the press remain on lockdown but what we do know is that Kojima, as part of the 25h Anniversary celebrations going on in Japan, showed the game for the first time with a real time demonstration. This serves as both the first time Ground Zeroes has been shown as the first real indication of what the Fox Engine in capable of. Judging from tweets from those at the event, it appears players will take up the role of Big Boss once more, yet in some type of open world stealth scenario.

Also of note, the Metal Gear Solid film, which has been talked about for several years, seems to finally be making some headway. Kojima is pairing with Columbia Pictures and the only currently attached talent is producer Avi Arad so until more details come out, it’s difficult to know whether it has any potential in beating the ‘video games moves are all terrible’ trope.

Christian Bale for Snake, anyone?
