In November of 2011 the console world got a bright fresh fun plat former called Rayman Origins. It astounded critics and fans alike with stunningly beautiful art painted scenery and an old school 2D game style not seen for many a year. Modern developers have lost the run of themselves churning out 3D, grey, dark and twisted games that they forgot one crucial thing. Games should be fun. Rayman Origins reignited this uniting younger gamers who liked the playful characters and bright colours with the older gamers who were reminded of the thing that got them gaming in the first place.

Imagine my delight then when Ubisoft announced that my little buddy was going to make his appearance as a launch title on the Vita and to be able to add the extra features available to it in with the new touch controls. Disappointingly though the much loved multiplayer mode seems to be missing, replaced by new game modes like Ghost mode for example which allows you to post your “ghost” run of the level for your friends to beat. while still retaining some level of competition the multiplayer was a riot and is sorely missed.

This omission does little to dampen the fun though and within a few minutes of starting Rayman you are once again lost in a world of exquisite hand painted beauty and before long you are speeding your way through each of the levels

The Vita makes use of the touch screen allowing the player to zoom in my pinching the screen and to collect the bubbles by popping them with your finger. This makes it easier but does take from the challenge of plat forming your way to the harder to reach spots.

The normal buttoned control system is perfect, really smooth and very intuitive. As you work your way through the game you unlock extra abilities first off the ability to hit and kick things in your way. this is used to kill the enemies but to also smash through boarded up entrances and to knock platforms and extra goodies out of plants. Later extra abilities are given to you such as the propeller  hair that allows you to float gracefully to make those larger jumps.

Overall : The one missing feature in the multiplayer mode is this games only real negative, everything else is just as good as its big cousin. Rayman Origins plays brilliantly and looks amazing. It is a wonderful game for gamers of all ages to come together and enjoy.
