The second installment in The Walking Dead Video game, Episode 2 :Starved for Help finally hit the PSN after a short delay but it was worth the wait as episode two cranks up the dial on every aspect of the game, the story has grown and now delivers an even more compelling and intense experience, and while the first episode was great this one will leave you dazed and gasping for more when the credits role.

Editors note : This review does not contain spoilers for episode two but does discuss the story from episode 1 it also does not focus on the game play mechanics as that as been covered in the previous review of Episode One.

The choices you made in episode one have developed the relationships you now carry into Episode two.  After playing through Ep one making the different choices available it is clear that these choices do actually heavily impact on the story although it does bring you to essentially the same place. After surviving the Car crash, meeting Clementine and taking her under your wing Lee then heads to the farm where Hersal puts them up in the barn for the night. Here you meet another family also on the move heading towards Macon your home town. After an attack from some walkers where Hersal looses his son you are forced to hit the road. Each stop you make you meet new people and face new challenges. At the end of episode one you are after taking refuge in a nearby motel, for the time being it offers some security.

Three months have passed since the end of Ep. One, Lee is still caring for Clementine and he is still rubbing the old man up the wrong way. With food starting to run out and tensions increasing as people get increasingly tired and hungry the group are forced to go outside the relative safety on the barackades to search for some supplies. Bandits roam the the forests taking what they want when they want as all remaining traces of society break down, this is key to how the second chapter plays out. The final few traces of humanity are getting harder and harder to find but trust your gut not everyone is what they say they are.

Episode two is a much more tense affair, as with every zombie apocalypse people equal problems and with every new person you encounter the group must balance the morally correct thing to do with the clear facts that food is already low and will not sustain the group as it is never mind with new additions, but can you really turn your back on someone or not take the risk to accept some help when it comes your way. This dilemma has been captured brilliantly as the arguments within the camp get worse until it becomes almost unbearable, then some new faces show up……

Going into it any more than that risks ruining the experience and story for you and as the story is so important that is all we will say on episode two, but if you liked episode 1 you will love episode 2. Our only regret is that we gave episode 1 10/10 that now we have no where way to go, and can’t score it any higher to properly reflect how much better episode two is. Roll on Episode 3 hopefully it doesn’t take as long to hit the store and keeps Telltales perfect score going right through the series.

SCORE 10/10
