Ever dreamt of an exciting life in city traffic management? No, well ..ok..no worries but just in case you ever wondered here is a game that does just that but makes it lots of fun too.

One of the better and more accessible genres on the iOS touch devices is one we have denoted as “tracing puzzles”. Essentially you must trace a path out on screen with your finger for the game to follow. As seen in Air Traffic Controller HD when you had to manage incoming air traffic by tracing out their landing paths, this title works in a similar way.

The player is faced with a number of coloured cars and a road network. It is the player’s job to get the coloured car back to its home (of the same colour) avoiding running out of petrol or causing a collision with the other traffic users on the road.

To start with the road networks are nice and simple and you have only got your own cars to contend with, but pretty soon the level of difficultly ramps up with more intricate road networks, various vehicles with various speed and petrol uses as well as other vehicles on the road. It is up to the player to try and work out the quickest route but to also factor in things like the different speeds of the vehicles, often sending a car on a longer route as to give a larger van time to clear its route first.

Along the way there are a number of other supplementary tasks that while not necessary for passing the level do offer multipliers for the points the player obtains. Collecting coloured boxes for example, this often takes the car on a much longer route but getting the right box makes all the difference to your end score. Players can also make use of environmentally friendly upgrades by reaching a point that upgrades the car to biofuel thus saving on the amount of petrol used by your cars and again increasing your score.

Unlike other games in this genre that rely on quick thinking during gameplay Traffic Wonder HD lets the player pre plan his tactics. If a collision happens you can rewind the game and try again choosing a better path for your cars to take. Players also have a number of “stop” that will slow a car for a small while should you wish to delay one at a certain point on the route. These are limited and once they are gone they are gone. Technically you should be able to complete the maps without them but they sure do help just use them intelligently and only when necessary.

The presentation is quite nice, while the maps get more intricate they are still nice and clear on the small screen. The visuals are bright colourful and simple. The music while setting up your route is pleasant and relaxing and the touch controls all work pretty well. Traffic Wonder HD is nice a simple but still not cheap looking.

This is the genre that gives me most the pleasure on the mobile market, it makes good use of the touch screen controls while still providing an interactive and challenging gaming experience. Traffic Wonder HD manages to pack in a lot of content with 60 different maps to manage that will keep you entertained as well as challenged.

SCORE 7.5/10
